Session Candle Co. was born from grief, love, and a helper's heart.
Where It Began
When founder Kamilah Patterson Garnette traveled to West Virginia to clean out her father's apartment, she knew she was there to say goodbye. What she didn't know was that she was also there to begin a conversation.
Amidst the quiet evidence of his battle with addiction were his attempts to learn her craft. He had asked her to teach him how to make candles — a simple lesson that distance and time had kept from happening. Finding his half-finished pours and handwritten notes felt like inheriting a final, silent request.
But it was his research that changed everything.
He hadn't just been trying to make candles. He was researching how to help people — notes on the science of addiction, lists of ways to support the friends and neighbors around him who were suffering. Even while fighting his own shadows, he had a helper's heart.
The Mission
Kamilah realized she didn't just lose a father — she inherited a mission. Session Candle Co. is her way of finishing that lesson and realizing his vision for community restoration.
Every candle we hand-pour in Brooklyn is part of a circular system of wellness. We believe that healing should be accessible, that the spaces where we rest and work should support our minds and bodies, and that a business can be a force for community good.
Through our Built-In Impact model, a portion of every candle sold goes directly to organizations providing resources for recovery and family support for those still in the struggle.
